Buffs & Enchantements
Items in Ryzom can apply bonuses to the different player energy types (hit points, stamina, sap and focus). The size of the bonus is determined by the craftsman, as described above, and the total bonus applied across all the player's equipped items is limited to the size of the energy bar in question. In other words, a player with 2000 hit points can be boosted by up to 2000 more hit points to a grand total of 4000.
All items in Ryzom have the capacity to be enchanted. They each have a statistic called 'Sap Load' which corresponds to the quantity of magical energy that they can hold.
Players can use special 'spell' crystals on their items to enable the item to cast a given spell. Items can only hold one spell at a time so use of a spell crystal on an item replaces the previous spell. Spell crystals can only be used once after which they disappear.
Once a spell crystal has been applied items can be charged up using 'Sap Crystals'. The amount of sap that can be applied to any given item depends on the 'Sap Load' stat (as described above).
Players can use the spells that have been enchanted onto their items at will. Each use absorbs a certain amount of the item's Sap energy. When the item has insufficient energy to cast its spell it must be re-charged.
'Spell Crystals' and 'Sap Crystals' are created by magicians. The crystals are physically constructed from the substance used as dapper (money) on Atys. This means that enchanting and recharging items is expensive.
